Vertigo
It is the story of a San Francisco detective, John “Scottie” Ferguson, who is hired to investigate a woman with whom he gradually falls in love. A woman, Madeleine, who is obsessed with her suicidal great-grandmother, Carlotta, believing that she is her direct reincarnation, and thus doomed to repeat her actions. Another Hitchcock classic, one of the markers of Madeleine’s obsessions with Carlotta, is a ruby necklace that Carlotta wears in a famous portrait that hangs in the California Palace of the Legion of Honor.
